Junon's cannon disappears after the Underwater Reactor Huge Materia mission. Tucked away on the coast in the northwest is the region's namesake, Junon (next to the minor settlement Under Junon). After the Fort Condor Huge Materia mission, the Condor atop the fort disappears. In the center of the southern section is Fort Condor, which is surrounded by wasteland due to its mako reactor. Many of these forests are destroyed in the forming of the aforementioned crater. This is the earliest point she may be encountered (12.5% chance) to recruit Yuffie. The north of this section contains forests where the Mystery Ninja may appear. South of the stream is the main portion of the Junon Area. The player needs to visit here with the buggy to get Mythril for Aeris's ultimate Limit. North of the stream, in a mountain adjacent to the northern border mountain is a cave: the old man's house. Upon Meteorfall, a crater appears in Junon that cuts off the stream from the ocean and removes the shallows, though the area is still accessible with the Highwind and skilled chocobos. The mainland of Junon is divided into two areas by a stream, which cannot be crossed on foot, but the buggy can cross on its shallowest point, and the Tiny Bronco can sail up it. In the same area is the island that is the Woodlands Area, however, the tail of this island that is separated from the rest by mountains is actually part of the Junon Area. After crossing the sea the player cannot return until they obtain the buggy, whereupon they can bribe the Cargo Ship workers to smuggle them and their vehicle across the ocean.Ī small island in Junon's southeast is included in the Junon Area. Junon connects with the eastern continent via boats, such as the Cargo Ship, that travel between Junon and Costa del Sol. The in-game world map has no link between it and the Midgar Area, although it is possible the mountains of the north are traversable, as a scene in the game shows characters approaching Midgar from mountains to the north. The Mythril Mine links it to the Grasslands Area on its eastern side. It is the largest of its three regions, separated from the other two regions by mountains. The Junon Area is a region of the world map in Final Fantasy VII located on the eastern continent.

Yet, as the age of digitized beauty progresses, alongside a growing personal capacity to technologically modify our own images as many in Western society, and other societies, now can, there is a greater need for discussion as to how this is affecting women’s relationship to their bodies. The relationship between women and media representations of beauty, sex and youth have been extensively explored and critiqued by gender and feminist theorists alike (such as Susan Bordo, 1993 Amy Shields Dobson, 2007, 2011, 2014 Susie Orbach, 2009). It is seen as reproductive, sexual, insatiable, as a commodity, a place of purity, as Mary and Eve, of sin and flesh and monstrous appetites-a map of spatial, temporal and lived female experiences. The female body has continuously been a battlefield of diverging concepts, regulations, values and modifications. This article is published as part of a collection dedicated to multi- and interdisciplinary perspectives on gender studies. Ultimately, this article offers an initial exploration into how this digitized dsymorphia affects our perception of self individually and as a collective society. Alternatively, perhaps this enablement irrevocably changes definitions of “normativity” as we alter our relations to the body and image. How do these online ideal images affect women’s relationships to their material bodies, do these digital images provide the freedom to express a self that would otherwise be overlooked or simply accentuate the disparity between female bodies and the images women feel they must embody? In positing the new term of “Digitised Dysmorphia”, I question whether transforming oneself into a virtual ideal, manipulating the image, is an act of dissidence, or a demonstration of how fully regulated we are by social norms, whereby digital modifications simply enable us to reach normative ideals. Not only do we critique our bodies in mirrors, but now we can digitize our dysmorphia by virtually modifying what we dislike, creating “perfect” selves instead. Nowadays, particularly in Western culture, we can digitally alter ourselves through Photoshop and apps such as Perfect365, producing our own notions of normativity. Yet, media no longer has exclusive power over regulating representations of female aesthetics. What has the digitization of female appearances, the altering of female bodies not only in media but individually among the general public through the use of apps, done to human sexual interactions and senses of self? Western society’s booming beauty and sex industries have hyper-sexualised society, over-selling the female image as a currency and commodity of desire. The frequency at which they shed their skins roughly halves. They continue to grow once they have reached maturity, but at a slower rate. The video below features Steve Irwin with an angry boa constrictor!īoa constrictors grow quickly, and shed their skin at regular intervals (every 1-2 months). However, if food is sparse, boa constrictors may not reach these sizes. If food is plentiful, they can grow even larger. The size that boa constrictors grow to depends on the availability of food. They may not be the biggest snakes in the rainforest, but they’re certainly not small! Boa constrictors considerably larger than this have been found. How Big Are Boa Constrictors?įemale boa constrictors grow to around 10 feet (3 metres) in length, while males are smaller, growing to around 8 feet (2.5 metres).įemale boa constrictors weigh between 10 to 15 kg (22 to 33 lb) on average, with males weighing proportionally less. Green Anacondas-the biggest rainforest snakes-are close relations of boa constrictors. King Of The Jungle?īoa constrictors are large, heavy snakes, but they are not the biggest rainforest snakes: green anacondas are significantly larger. The boa constrictor’s patterned skin provides excellent camouflage. There are currently 10 recognised subspecies of boa constrictor (but not all scientists agree that all of these are actually subspecies).īoa constrictors live and hunt alone, and are mostly nocturnal. They dispatch their prey by constricting it (squeezing it so that it can no longer breathe), before swallowing it whole. He was looking for his keys and started checking the cracks in the living room couch when he found a 6-foot red-tailed boa constrictor! Aside from the fact that there was a deadly snake in his house, there was another issue. That is what a man in Rose Hill, Kansas discovered on Monday morning. We might be looking for our wallet, keys, or the remote control, but if you are looking for a giant snake, you might want to consider looking in the couch cushions as well. It just seems to be a vortex where everything we lose goes, so it’s the logical place to check. Born into a prominent family of educators, Robert Kiyosaki has risen to world prominence as an investor, businessman, and author. All the tasks I would normally perform work in all current version I've used, but I would say when it comes to authoring, and burning, and a nice overall UI I think the latest version of 19 is the cleanest and most optimized compared to older. 17 can also be somewhat slow to load on certain operating systems while 19 loads reasonably fast. With the exception of toast 8, and 11 (6 isn't even an option here.) 17 has weird graphical glitches on some of it's menus, especially on older version of macOS prior to Mojave, and Catalina. I have to say looking back, over my older version of toast and running them in various macOS VMs to test performance: Toast 19 really has the most polished UI for the most current release of Toast, and macOS. I wanted to see how it was performing under Big Sur as theĬurrent OS. Fast forward to a couple days ago when I purchased 19 pro. The UI was pretty clean and worked well, too. Overall it worked and didn't have that many problems. I bought 17 when Mojave was the current OS. I will skip my experience with 8, and 11 because that was too long ago to be relevant for today. Since then: I've upgraded to new releases every few years to see what's new, and to have a current copy around. I started using Toast 6 when I had my blue and white G3, and it was a good reliable burning solution back in the days when Apple was picky about what third party drives their native burning supported. I was going to leave a star rating, however there doesn't seem to be an option for it, simply a comment option.Īnyway I own a license for Toast 6, 8, 11, 17, and 19. Having used Toast 19 Pro for a few days now, I thought I would share some thoughts on experience. It seems like more and more Apple is no longer a pro oriented platform, or at least it's changed enough that the term just doesn't mean what it used to in the old Apple community I grew up in. Since I'll be needing a new computer in a couple more years, this might be a good time to look into switching to windows so I can have access to the commercial, and professional authoring tools that I would like to learn. Either way I've generally had a good experience with Toast through the years, off and on that I've used it. My thoughts on the additional bundled software: I don't use it, but in order to get the features I do want and need, I need the Pro package. I will say, that once I cleaned out my toast 19 install, and clean installed the Toast 20 upgrade, it actually loads slightly faster. So I got toast 20 Pro for $80.Īs far as any visual differences, there aren't any. I usually pay around $99 USD for my upgrades, today, I came to the site when they were offering an additional 10 % discount for a limited time frame. I decided to upgrade because I've upgraded to Monterey, and version 19 was at end of support, and I wouldn't have gotten any future updates even though it was working without issues.Īnyway, Toast 20 fixes some things with Blu-ray video, and since that's my main reason for keeping toast around, it made sense to update for that, and now I'll get updates during this cycle as they come out. Usually, I only purchase a toast upgrade every couple years since I haven't used it all that often these days. Wu writes that she "almost lost her life" due to the incident and its aftermath on social media. In 2019, Wu expressed her dissatisfaction with the show's renewal on social media, which led to backlash and online shaming. RELATED: The Real Reason Constance Wu Agreed To Star In Chris Pratt's The Terminal List This was due to the Tweets about Fresh Off The Boat's renewal being a significant contributing factor to her mental health struggles. She also revealed that she attempted to end her own life three years ago. Additionally, in 1999, the world was honored with a TV-movie "biography" of the series, Come On, Get Happy: The Partridge Family Story.Constance Wu opened up about her decision to distance herself from Hollywood and social media in her book. The series' theme song went under the title "When We're Singin'" during season one the following year, the lyrics were rewritten and the song was retitled "Come On, Get Happy." Originally networkcast from September 25, 1970, to August 31, 1974, The Partridge Family also yielded a Saturday-morning cartoon spin-off, 1974's Partridge Family, 2200 AD, and that same year, several of the series' kid actors supplied the voices of their Partridge characters for another animated series, Goober and the Ghost Chasers. Also added to the cast that season was Alan Bursky as Reuben Kinkaid's nephew Alan Kinkaid, a shy, neurotic youngster who at the Partridges' urging emerged from his shell to pursue a career as a comedian. During the series' fourth and final season, Ricky Segall was seen as Ricky Stevens, a four-year-old neighbor kid who occasionally performed with the Partridges. Law and Love & War middle son Danny Partridge, the group's self-appointed business manager, played by future radio talk host Danny Bonaduce youngest son Chris, played by Jeremy Gelbwaks during season one and thereafter by Brian Foster and youngest daughter Tracy, portrayed by Suzanne Crough. As for the kids themselves, they included oldest son Keith Partridge, played by Shirley Jones' stepson David Cassidy, who attained teen-idol status by virtue of this series oldest daughter Laurie, played by Susan Dey, who grew up to star on such drama series as L.A. The group's agent was Reuben Kinkaid (Dave Madden), who professed to hate kids but who admitted to loving money. Almost by accident, Shirley began singing with her kids during an impromptu garage jam session, and thus was born the Partridge Family, a popular singing aggregation who traveled from one engagement to another in the family's battered, psychedelically decorated bus - all the while trying to lead a "normal" life. Loosely inspired by the career of the real-life family singing group the Cowsills, the ABC sitcom The Partridge Family starred Shirley Jones as Shirley Partridge, widowed mother of five musically inclined children. Cocreated by novelist Cecilia Hearn, Samantha Who? premiered October 15, 2007. Others in the heroine's orbit were her resentful mother Regina (Jean Smart) and her too-affable-to-be-true father Howard (Kevin Dunn) her best friend Andrea (Jennifer Esposito), an accomplished conniver and back-stabber in her own right and her former childhood buddy Dena (Melissa McCarthy), who had her own special reasons for hanging around to see which of the "two" Sams would ultimately prevail. Helping her put the pieces together was apartment-house doorman Frank (Tim Russ), who had often been the recipient of the "old" Sam's bitchiness and had a lot trouble reconciling himself to the "new" Sam, but was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It was up to Sam to remain as nice and pleasant as she now was, or to revert to her previous nastiness. Sam's post-coma personality was one of pure "sweetness and light"-which greatly confused her friends, family members, and business associates, who recalled the pre-coma Sam as mean, overbearing, manipulating, vitriolic, and a hard-drinking, promiscuous party animal. Slowly but surely, Sam confirmed that she was 30 years old, the vice president of the real-estate firm Chapman and Funk, and the ex-girlfriend of a photographer named Todd (Barry Watson). Former Married. With Children costar Christina Applegate returned to television in the slightly schizophrenic ABC sitcom Samantha Who? Applegate played title character Samantha "Sam" Newly, who after being stuck down in a traffic accident, awakened from an eight-day coma suffering from "retrograde amnesia," with no memory of who she was nor what she'd been. It’s a lovely way to honor the original Colossal Cave and the spirit of exploration it invoked, even as that narration has been translated to a visual format.Īnd as far as I’m told, if you remember how to get every single treasure, you’ll likely get them all here too with little trouble. Aiming your Look icon at anything and selecting will get you the familiar, now gently voice-acted narration describing both what you’re seeing and often adding extra context clues. Just make sure you don’t actually throw any of your items off a cliff, as they’ll be gone forever.ĭespite the new format, this is still entirely the Colossal Cave Adventure that fans of the original will remember, with all the text intact thus far. There’s no sensible way anyone could carry everything otherwise, and it’s a pleasant nod to the era that came directly out of games like Colossal Cave. Colossal Cave is absolutely chocked with stuff, as item interactions make up the core of its puzzles. But after just a few moments in the cave, I’m sold on the more traditional adventure game system of icons – an eye to look and hear the narration for something, a hand to interact, and an inventory of all my junk. Hand tracking seemed that it would have been a natural fit for Colossal Cave Adventure, and yet everything is entirely aim and button presses. As someone who only rarely drags out her Valve Index anymore, moments like these remind me what I love about the technology.Īt first, I was a bit uncertain about the controls. A single blue bird perches gracefully on a branch as a beam of sunlight peeks in through the cave ceiling, close enough I can almost touch him. Deep chasms stretch into infinity beneath my feet as I slide along a narrow rock wall bats flap anxiously overhead. The Switch version appears to be running well and offers a very enticing portable option, but of the two, the VR version is understandably the more visually impressive in the way VR is able to depict the intimidating nature of the Colossal Cave itself. I’ve now had the chance to play the earliest snippet of Colossal Cave Adventure at both GDC and now at Gamescom, with two hands-on previews in VR on the Meta Quest 2 and one hands-off preview on the Nintendo Switch, for which it was just announced. So what does it mean to remake Colossal Cave in 2022? Text-based adventures have largely fallen by the wayside, so Roberta Williams and her husband Ken Williams are tackling the adventure most notably by visualizing it for the first time. |
